Invest in Innovation - Hazelwood-Oakland Shuttle Op-Ed

The Editorial Board of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette penned an op-ed about the proposed DOMI mobility trail and the Hazelwood-Oakland Shuttle.

A $20 million city improvement project has drawn sharp criticism from some residents and public transit advocates.

The Mon-Oakland Mobility Project, targeted to Schenley Park and “The Run” neighborhood in lower Greenfield, includes funding for much-needed flood mitigation, landscaping and lighting improvements, and $450,000 for a trail for a free, human-operated electric shuttle loop to connect Hazelwood and Oakland.

(Some of the funding will also go to filling potholes. No controversies there.)

City leaders argue that the shuttle is necessary for the economic development of the area and will be far-less invasive than creating an actual road for personal vehicles.

They’re right.
