MOBILITY

Connecting to the community

Improving community connectedness and equitable access to economic opportunity have long been priorities for the foundation owners of Hazelwood Green, who for decades have invested in public transit, bike and trail infrastructure, and mobility government services to expand transportation options throughout Pittsburgh.

That commitment is reflected in the vision for Hazelwood Green, which embraces a well-connected, multimodal transportation system that not only provides access to and through the site, but also establishes long-needed linkages between surrounding neighborhoods, Oakland, Downtown, the Pittsburgh Technology Center and the South Side.

The mobility map at right provides detail about all the ways to access the site by foot, bike, car, or transit. For additional directions to the site, click here.

Key Studies & Plans

In response to the challenges posed by the site’s location, nearby topography, and shortcomings in existing road infrastructure, several research studies have been conducted to analyze and identify transportation solutions.

LONG-RANGE TRANSPORTATION PLAN.

The Hazelwood Green Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) envisions options for improved transportation access that would support the site’s buildout, preserve existing neighborhood streets, and respect community context. Released in January 2020, the LRTP can be accessed here.

SECOND AVENUE MULTIMODAL STUDY.

The Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission (SPC), in association with PennDOT, the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, and the Port Authority of Allegheny County, initiated a State Route 885/Second Avenue Multimodal Corridor Study, resulting in a 20-year shared vision and plan for multimodal access, mobility, and livability. The final report released in December 2019 can be found here.
